How to Run ADP Payroll in 7 Steps

A payroll is the process of managing employees’ wages. The term often refers to a group of people who perform different job duties and receive their pay from one employer, typically on a regular basis. In order to manage your company’s payrolls effectively, it helps if you understand how they work from start to finish.

The “adp payroll manual pdf” is a document that gives step-by-step instructions on how to run ADP Payroll. The document includes 7 steps.

Visit ADP

Set up an ADP Run Account first.

ADP Run outperforms other payroll systems when it comes to account setup since it takes care of everything for you. To begin, contact ADP and make an appointment to speak with a sales person who will assess your requirements and assist you in selecting the optimal plan, as well as any optional features such as time monitoring software. They’ll inquire about your accounting software to see if you need any integrations.

ADP charges a setup fee for new customers, although the sales representative may typically eliminate it. If they don’t mention it, you should inquire.

Your account representative will provide you a list of the information they want for each employee once you’ve signed the contract. It’s as simple as filling out the spreadsheet they offer you, or you may send W-4s and I-9s to your employees (but they are not required.) In order to set up direct deposit, ADP will require your bank information (routing and account number). They’ll take care of the rest, including taxes and deductions, direct deposit setup, and pay rate configuration.

Employees in the Future

ADP will add all of your workers for you when you initially join up. But what happens if you need to recruit more people or engage contractors in the future? It’s simple to add: when you hire a new employee.

1. In the top menu, hover over “Employees” and choose “Add Employee.” 2. Submit their basic information, including their Social Security number, and ADP will send them an email asking them to sign up and enter their payroll and tax data.

ADP also sends new hiring reports to the state, which relieves you of another burden. They will add the person to your payroll list after they get the information.

Contractors are being added.

When Contractors are being added., choose “Add Contractor” from the menu, and fill in the information as directed. ADP does not onboard contractors, so you’ll be adding all of the information, including account details and deductions.

You’re ready to conduct payroll after you’ve finished the setup procedure. The day before workers are paid, payroll must be completed. The following stages in this ADP Payroll lesson are shown below. Check out our guide to the top payroll services for more information on various payroll options.

Step 2: Log in and choose Payroll.

Payroll may be completed in a few simple steps.

Click “Run Payroll” from the homepage. It will take you to your payroll page, where you will be able to view the frequency and pay period for which you are processing payroll. Then choose “Start.”

Step 3: Resolve Timesheet Problems

ADP alerts you to possible issues and provides you the opportunity to address them.

Any timecard errors are flagged by ADP at the start of the procedure. A banner appears at the top if there is a problem, such as a missing clock out. Select “Resolve Exceptions” from the drop-down menu. It will send you to the above-mentioned timecard, where you may correct any inaccuracies.

You have two choices for electronically recording each employee’s time worked: you may use ADP’s time tracking software, which costs extra, or you can use your own software and have it incorporated into ADP Run. Find out more about free time-tracking software.

Step 4: Select Overtime or Vacation from the drop-down menu.

The spreadsheet format makes it simple to add or modify the payroll.

After you’ve handled any difficulties, go to the following page to examine your payroll and make any necessary modifications, such as PTO or overtime. You may include the normal hours on this page if you’re manually entering time, which is only possible if you have a few workers. You may customize this page by adding job codes, for example. Click “Next” when you’re done.

If you’re using a manual time tracking system, our free time sheet templates might help you make it more effective.

Step 5: Provide information on the contractor.

Contractors’ payroll may be handled via ADP.

Add any contractors you have in the system’s hours and pay rate. Their salary will also be processed through ADP. Then choose “Payroll Preview.” Skip this step and select “Preview Payroll” if you don’t have any contractor hours to pay out.

Step 6: Payroll Approval

You won’t be able to change your mind after you’ve approved payroll.

You’ll see a rundown of all of your payroll information. Take a moment to double-check that the total number of hours is right. Although ADP handles the deductions and taxes, it’s always a good idea to double-check. If there are any issues, just click “Previous” to return to the previous page. You may also write a note on the check stubs at this time. (See the lower-left corner for the button.) Select “Approve” after you’re finished.

Step 7: Review the Confirmation Screen and Finish

Payroll is complete after you choose Approve.

You’ve finished with your payroll. ADP handles the rest, including submitting federal, state, and local taxes, depositing pay into bank accounts or the Wisely pay card, and issuing checks (or you can print them yourself if you did not get this service). Important information may be seen on the last page. Click “Download Payroll Details to General Ledger” if your accounting software is connected with ADP Run, and the information will be sent to it. ADP offers 47 payroll and HR reports, as well as the ability to develop custom reports if necessary. You may generate reports for any payroll runs you’ve conducted.
